The world's oldest open-air museum and a Nordic zoo in one.

Skansen is the world's oldest open-air museum, founded in 1891 to preserve Sweden's vanishing rural culture. 150+ historical buildings have been relocated from every corner of the country — a Sami camp, an 18th-century glassworks, the entire Älvros farmhouse from Hälsingland — staffed in summer by costumed interpreters. There's also a Nordic zoo: brown bears, lynx, moose, wolverines. The full visit takes 3-4 hours. Don't miss the Christmas market in December and the famous Midsummer celebrations in June.
